Cant play wmv files [Archive]

When i try to play a wmv file in windows media player 11, it says that an audio codec is needed. I clicked on the web help and i downloded the windows media codec but it still says the i need an audio codec. Which codec do i need. Also i cant play a wmv file with any other player.

I dont know. I have divix player so i should have the the divix codec.

Open any .wmv file with GSpot 2.52 program. It will tell ypu whitch codec you need to play it.

A WMV file is a Windows Media Video file, its strange that WMP11 didn't come with them even more so if you have XP as the codec comes standard with it!

Try here (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/format/codecdownload.aspx), it should work even though it doesn't say so, (WMP11 is beta remember). :)

you maybe need the indeo codec maybe?

i had similar problem but i am unsure what format i was trying to play at the time, may well have been wmv's.

I tired installing the indeo codec but it still didnt work. I also installed the wmp codec. When i checked in gspot, i checked the filters and codecs. There are a few that are red. There is one that says WMaudiov9. It says that it is not registerd. I tired installing the wmp codec again but still the same thing. I was able to play wmv files before with windows media player 11 but now i cant. I will try reinstalling it later.

Have you tried the official windows media player codec pack?

Read both before choosing what one suites you the best. You may need to reboot as well after installing them to properly finish the installation.

I already tired that. It still doesnt work. I tired installing k-lite codec pack and it worked.

Maybe its because it's the Micro$oft Player, they must be very retarded and don't even know how to install their own codecs correctly

Yeah those people at M$ are very dumb a lot of times when you open a video WMP it says that says that need a codec to be downloaded but the damn codec never downlods very common problem. I have been had the problem myself too. Ah but those useless links to buy music at msn and the msn portal WMP has always download very faster

well WMP IS beta here guys...maybe one of them MS noobies forgot to pack the codec with it....

Id recommend sticking with WMP 9 or 10 as they support plugins, codecs work fine with their installers and are NOT beta software...

My WMP11 works fine, all my codecs work all my plug-ins work, it like nothings changed except the interface.

different setup in comps tho i bet. plus mabybe u done someting that magma_saber didnt. did u uninstall 10 before installin 11 or can u have both installed?
