Hey all,

I was using Daemon Tools 4 on a computer and it seems to have messed it up.

I was using it to play some games, but it has disabled my real CD/DVD drive. I have uninstalled it, and I have learned how to get it working – using StarForce Nightmare, I “Enable ch1” and the real drive pops up. But the problem is, every time I start the PC, I have to go through this process. I’m doing this for another person and he isn’t computer smart. What I want to do is get it so I don’t have to “Enable ch1” every time I start the PC.

Thanks a lot!

go to device manager and then right click on sumttin' and choose "Scan for hardware changes" and you would be all set up ;)

That didn't work. I restarted the PC and it wasn't there. I had to "Enable ch1" again to get the CD/DVD drive to come up.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Jolly Jake

System restore, go back to a previous point where all was working.

On another note if you are going to uninstall daemon tools make sure you unmount and then disable all the virtual drives..even if you upgrade to a newer version of DT you should still do this ad once i ended up with 4 drives i was unable to use...system restore helped me there and is worth a try in your situation.

Look through the registry:
HKLM / System / Currentcontrolset / Enum / IDE / ...
There should be your CDrom. If not then it is something wrong.

Sometimes normal software, like Nero, will do this also as they all want to create Virtual Drives (or Imagedrives). I had to disable, (then remove), all virtual drives. Then I clicked Start > Run > (typed) msconfig > OK. In the next window I selected Startup and removed the tick for Daemon Tools etc so they don't load when you start your computer. Then I went Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager and "Removed" (or "Uninstalled") my Cd and Dvd drives. Then I restarted the computer and let it find them again. I'm not saying this will work but it did for me.
