it's not off topic, for my video player when my computer is slow the video jumps but the audio works (only happens sometimes)

have you done a update recently?

Hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete and go into the "Processes" tab and list any service you're not sure of ... attach it in a .txt document if you want.

Maybe the videocard? I used to have a Sis 620 video on an older computer I had long time ago and the videos sucked balls on it. Update you soundcard/video drivers, delete the junk .tmp files, defrag you harddrive, clean the internet cache, chek for adware/virus, close the useless programs that you don't need, chek the codecs, try different players and if still don't work I don't know what to suggest

When you play a video file, open task manager and check CPU usage, go to processes and find the process with maximum value. What's that process ?
Try to reinstall your player and codecs.
