Are you using DVD+R or DVD-R? I believe DVD-R is a more universal format ...

Yeah, I think DVD-R is more universal than DVD+R. Does the disc work in other DVD players (other than the one that originally burnt it). If you are using a DVD-R, try using a different brand of DVD-R.

thanks for your replys
it was the finaliziation i needed to do
but now when i put it to disk either from my pc or if i record direct to disk from sky it starts to skip a second it does this all the way thru the movie
but i noticed it does not do it if i don't finalize the disk but i need to finalize it so i can watch the movie in a different room the disks i use are dvd-rw and dvd-r but both still do the same thing.can any1 please help thanks.

dvd-rw may not be playable in other players (that was the case for me with cd-rw discs) ... Finalizing the disc is done to prevent you from adding more material onto the DVD. You need to do that in order for it to be readable.
Also, are you copying a movie? Burning a downloaded movie? Burning a home-made movie? What exactly are you trying to put on the DVDs?

Also try reducing you ' Burn Speed ' and keep it at 4x or lower, as some stand-alone DVD Players don't like the higher speeds and they often skip, or freeze, whereas your computer DVD Drive won't have a problem with them.
It is not the finalisation that is causing the problem, as without it, you cannot play it on a stand-alone DVD Player.

i am trying to put a film from sky plus(satalite)on to a disk so i can play it on another dvd player in my house i am using dvd-r and dvd-rw(dvd disks)
i have tried putting it on to disk via my pc at 2 speed which is my lowest speed
i am sorry to disagree with you but it must be the finalization as when i play it on the dvd player i record the film to and watch the movie it is perfect but as soon as i finalize it i get the problems don't matter what machine i play it in even the dvd recorder that i originally copied the film to what else can it be.thanks.

I'm not from the UK, so I don't know exactly what SkyPlus is, but from your "satellite" description, I'm guessing it's a televised movie? In that case, have you correctly encoded the video file to work on a DVD (sorry it's a fairly trivial question, but just have to ask it haha)?

May I ask how you managed to get the film you recorded on Sky+, from the Sky+ box to your PC? Or did you, connect your Sky+ box into your 'Video In' and record it in real time?
I noticed that my Sky+ box has a USB port on it, but as far as I can see it has no functionality! :(

yes i have encoded the file correctly.
as for random's question all you have to do is once you have recorded the film on to sky+ just press the red button(copy) then press select then press select again then enter your pin number then press red on your dvd recorder or vcr.hope this helps.if u have any success please let me know how you did it without the recorded film jumping thanks.

Certain media will not work with certain DVD players. There is a great list of DVD media and compatibility on VCDHelp.com (http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia) that has a very extensive list of media and known issues.
