Are you using your original disc or a no-cd fix? If the latter, replace original files and use your original disc and see if the error persists ...

My drivers are up to date and i think i might have found the problem. i have a gforce mx 4ooo for a graphics card which is 128mb and meets the minium for the game but it is not on the list of supported graphics cards in the read me. could that be it? and if it is are all the new graphics pci express?

Take a look at the other Oblivion thread ... wolfsrain provided a link to something that may help ;)

I've done this for my bro who has an old video card, a ti4800, oldblivion program worked well with those two mods that I've mentioned. Also the water texture added. I know it sounds complicated, but it ain't. Just a bit of patience.
Oldblivion 11t6 is the latest version if I'm not mistaken.

i've got oblivion yesterday, and it won't run on my Geforce Ti4400.

as wolfsrain said, you could try OldBlivion, but it still won't work on your GeforceMX series, since it says so in OldBlivion readme, MX series are not supported

The MX series don't have any pixel shader support whatsoever. The only good upgrade that you can do is a fx6800 video card. The FX 6800 is the last card on AGP slot, the 7 series from nvidia being all on PCI Xpress. As the X series from ATI, you could find an X800 for AGP I think. But X1k serie for ATI are also made only for PCI Xpress slots. So either you do a major upgrade, either you buy the top of 6 serie from nvidia(fx6800) or the X800 from ATI. The last solution should be okay for about a year, no more. The major upgrade is better in the long run.

The X1600 is also AGP, and offers 512MB of onboard memory as well ;) ... but you'd be better off getting a PCI-E mobo/GPU, because eventually, that's going to become the standard

Most likely will see also PCI Xpress slots for the soundcards, network, tuners and whatever is around as a component that can be put on a mobo. Do you remember the times when a video card was inserted in a classic PCI slot?Or the old ISA slots....The PC progressed so damn fast...
In other news, asp, the creator of oldblivion, announced a compatible version with the latest patch for the next week.

The latest version of oldblivion, for the unfortunate people who don't have a video card from the last generation, 0.11t7version is out, bringing full compatibility with the last patch. Enjoy. I will make a copy also in the oblivion thread, as I know that are many interested in this.

ah, i can't patch because i have 800mb of space, 1200mb of space is required.....

anyway, 0.11t7 rules, with 0.10, my graphics sucks. now, it looks simular to my laptop which has a Dx9 card (FireGL V300, a workstation gfx card). great work, asp.

i'll post a few screenshots later, if i can remember.

No pixel shader support on that one. So no dice. You need at least a nvidia ti4 series(4200, 4400, 4600,4800) for oldblivion to work. The MX cards have no pixel shader support so they can't run oblivion. Oldblivion downgrades the pixel shader vfrom v2.0 to v1.1 so even the cards with any pixel shader support can run TES4.But MX4000 doesn't have that feature implemented. You either go for a major upgrade(my strong recommendation), either for an fx6950 as that one being the last card on AGP for nvidia. For ATI is X850.The 7 series from Nvidia and the 1000 series from ATI are for PCI Xpress slots so you will have to change also the motherboard and most likely the CPU and the RAM.

Yeah I already know the damned geforce 4mx= Geforce 2MX pixel shaderless fiasco since a long time the problem is that I didn't knoiw it when bought this ++++ty card. When I bought this card it was a Geforce MX 4000 and a ATi 9200 but I tought the Nvidia was better and since I have always feel more attracted to this brand than ATI I made one of the worst mistakes I could made and got this garbage iI spent near $100 for a thing good for nothing. But I recenetly checked on a computer shop and saw some new cards some ATi 9250 with 128 and 256 Mb of v ram with more low price than when I bought this crap and with shader support I know is not the best card but but I don't have so much money to spend and stores here don't sell so many high end cards . So near the next month when i going get some money I will replace this junk card

Nvidia announced that they will release FX7600 for AGP. Medium class. Or you can go for an FX6600 if you don't want to wait. The medium class is usually around 200$, but the FX 6600 is now a lot cheaper. I've seen it at around 100$. And definitely a better choice. But I would rather put some money aside and would buy the FX7600, if I'd be you. They announced it for autumn so I guess you can raise that money 'till then.No high end cards for AGP announced yet for the series 7. Just this FX7600, which is, as I said, a medium range card.

My roommate got a X1600 with 512MB DDR2 onboard memory (AGP) for about $150 ... I don't know much about the FX series cards, but how do they compare to that?

wolfsrain

The equivalent for that card is the FX7600. Your friend must have bought the Extreme Edition, as the normal version comes out with only 256MB DDR2 RAM. At Nvidia, FX7600 Extreme Edition has the same fatures. I don't know about the price, as the card will be out in september. Nvidia "forgot" the AGP for their 7th installment. And they announced only this model for AGP, for now.
So, I'd say your friend got a pretty darn good deal.Me, I'm preparing for a nice FX7950. I'm more an Nvidia guy, but for my old computer(which now is in the ownership of my little bro) I can put this ATI. You gave me a nice idea. Thanks Dip.

Hmmm, no dice. They don't ship in Europe. But, I know a few PC shops that have this brand and they are close of my home. Most likely, I might find it there. It is and Extreme Edition and at this price is really a steal. But GeCube always had lower prices and yet it is considered to be one of the best brands on ATI chipsets.

I dumped the Geforce Mx and chenged to another crad like I mentioned in other topic and used the old oblivion again and now works I can see and play the game

wolfsrain

It's the Tab key.The inventory really sucks. And when you have lots of items you might have some slowdowns. At the Tab, you will have also the map, the stats and bascially whatever you need to know about your quests.

TthankS for answering my post and by the way the game is much too much action packed and the enemies are very easy I thought was bit more RPG but anyways is good. I think Gothic 2 and Dungeon Siege 2 are better

Morrowind with its addons(Tribunal and Bloodmoon-and a few good mods) is a lot better.Oblivion, unfortunately, pays the price for being a multiplatform game. At higher levels the enemies won't be so easy in TES4, as they grow in level at the same time with your character. But you are right about the part with too much action.I miss the old Black Isle/ Bioware games. I'm waiting for Neverwinter Nights 2, Gothic 3 and I also hope that Dragon Age and Witcher will come out.
