i've got this weird ass problem, i play a skirm and a few minutes in all my buildings self destruct on me =/
legal install, and ive tried a few replacement game.dat's and a mini-image, all of which work for my friends etc.
playing online is a bit of a bugger when a few min in you lose :(
any ideas fella's as im in uni i cant cart all my games with me back and fourth hence mini images etc are my lifesavers.
cheers for the anticipated replies
peace.
Thread moved to proper location.
On topic: Does the error occur only when using images, or does it still do it when you use the original disc?

i dont have the disc at Uni like
ill know next weekend as im going home again then, dont really want to wait though as it looks bloody cool.
it was working until i had to replace windows, not format the hdd like, but just replace the installation, i tried getting a registry entry off a mate incase that was it, but too no avail
Yeah, my guess would be your registry is a little hosed now. Getting it off a friend might not work becuase every set up is a little different. Hate to tell you, but you might have to wait until you get back home and reinstall it.

ah bugger no killing orkies for me :(
anyway at all to get round it ?
Well, you could try all the latest updates, after that I don't know what to tell you, you could to see if anyone else has delt with this problem before.
Edit: Just found this by the way:
Q: My units keep on dying whenever I start a mission. What's going on?
A: This is a built-in anti-piracy measure of the game. If the game detects
any altered files it will self destruct all of the player's units,
effectively rendering the game unplayable. Unfortunately, it happens a lot
to legitimate users such that EA posts a solution for this problem at their
official tech support page.
A quick fix for this problem is to navigate to the games installed folder
and then to the support directory and to load the The Battle for
Middle-earth_code.exe file. Just re-enter the key and all works again.
If that doesn't work, then uninstall the broken version of the game, and do
a clean installation of the game in the default directory, and it should
work just fine.

then i triwed replacing the game.dat i got from Megagames with the original game.dat and using a mini image, same effect :(
as an afterthought, i tried applying thwe patch and it says
missing or invalid registry/INI entry

uninstall your game and reinstall from your original game disc ... play to the point where you had the problem before only using your original disc (not a fixed .exe or mini-image) and see if the problem still occurs.

read the thread dude :P
I understand you don't have the original game disc handy (I'm not illiterate). I said to use your original game disc because sometimes a crack can be the cause of an error. The first step to troubleshooting is eliminating as many unnecessary causes for error as you possibly can. If you have the original game disc, it's not necessary for you to use a crack, therefore, I want you to try to eliminate that source from the equation ... step-by-step, we will work to figure out what your problem is, and then when we figure it out, we'll figure out a way to solve it ;)

aye thing is, it worked with the crack before i had to reinstall windows. i think it must be a registry thing, the game thinks ive copied it over fropm another machine because i reinstalled windows.
