Sniper Elite How Do I Hold General without killing him

In the mission at the base where you set timebombs and wait for the guy on the train how do you get info from him without killing him????
I get all the way through and nothing works. I shoot him in the foot he still dies HEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLPPPPPP

You can kill him,
hideout and wait till he is in his office,
then kill him and search till you find infos.
