NFS most wanted slows down only during races PLEASE HELP ME

Hello okay my situation is really annoying, during police chases or regular driving my game runs fine, smooth even at 1600x1200 using a pentium 1.7, radeon 9600 128meg and 768 megs of ram, then when i enter an actual race in career mode it runs fine then at some point it starts to slow down to the point where the screen and my car move about once every two or three seconds, when I esc to the menus even the menu system takes forever to come up just so I can exit the game, once I exit to free roam the city or a different menu the game runs fine again,

what is going on, I do not think I need to turn down the graphical options if that was the case it would affect the entire game.

please help me.

Yup it doesnt look like the graphic's card is the problem...try uninstalling and reinstalling the game, that might help...
i had a similar problem with CnC and after uninstalled and reinstalled the game it worked fine....

Try the latest set of drivers for ATI.But my guess it's the graphic card. I have the same problem on my old Ti4800(even with updated drivers), but no problems at all on the fx6800(i have two computers at home). So I guess It's a problem with older video cards.

You already posted this issue here (http://www.mgforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45156). In that post, you stated that you lost your original CD. If you don't have your original CD, we can't help you here at MGF. Sorry.

I can say that the Problem is your graphics card, try to use medium or low settings, and all will be fine. (9600 hasn't enough power for all on MAX, trust me, a friend has such a card)

I am still not convinced because over at the EA forums there are many people complaining about stuttering even on 640x480 resolution with a good card, like I said if it was my card the whole game would stutter even during the police chases but it only stutters during racing, they are trying to decided whether or not to make a patch to fix the stuttering by seeing how many people are having this problem and it seem sthere are a lot of people having this problem.
