When I play with my friend on LAN and when I try to join the game he made on the LAN ( Me and my friend both bought the game ) it says:
Lan servers are restricted to local clients ( type c )
we both have the firewalls off so..
what is the problem and how to fix it?
thank you!

It's probably for the console, you type it in, in the console window.

Do you not have to select the "Enable console (~)" under Options->Controls->Advanced Controls?
If you're not on the same subnet, you probably won't be able to connect to his LAN game. You're both in the same house trying to start a LAN game? If you are, I assume you're connected via a router. If you could go into the command line and type in the "ipconfig" command. If you're connected to a Linksys router, you should each have an IP of 192.168.1.*
Also, if that doesn't work and you have a linksys router, open up IE and type 192.168.1.1 in your location bar and enter your appropriate user name and password (both "admin" by default). Click on the "Advanced" tab. Then go to the "DMZ host" and enter the IP address of the computer you want to create the LAN game ("this feature sets a local user to be exposed to the Internet. Any user on the Internet can access in/out data from the DMZ host. Enable the feature as you wish to use special-purpose service."). When you finish your game, I would highly suggest you put the DMZ host back to the default 0, because otherwise, your computer is opened up on the Internet, and that's just not too safe. I would only use the DMZ host during a LAN game (only time I use DMZ host is when I have a LAN party).

This is probably a retorical question, but you're both connected to the same router, correct?
