should be......SP2 REALLY disconnects your internet?
if you mean slow it down in downloads or sometihng there is an unofficial patch out there TCIP.sys it changes this file but im not gonna post a link cause im unsure if its against forum rules
you see SP2 limits the amount of outgoiing connectionsit makes, i tihnk the default is either 10 or 25, the patch can allow you to change that to the SP1 setting (i think) to 50.
as for your old programs id try a reinstall of them

I agree SP2 is a pain in the arse, it literally took over a year untill I finally decided to install it (I had no choice really).
Microsoft has officially confirmed that Windows XP SP3 will be released after Windows Vista sometime in 2006. Windows XP Service Pack 3 (XP SP3) will be a regular customer fix and not a major upgrade. SP3 will contain significant security enhancements, in addition to stability and performance improvements.
Mr. Ballmer made some interesting remarks: Microsoft might indeed ship SP3 for Windows XP before Longhorn comes out. Also, upcoming version 7 of Internet Explorer should have anti-phishing technology built-in. [longhorn=Windows Vista]
IE7 will only be available to users running XP SP2. I hope that build Windows Media Player WMP 10 and Windows Movie Maker into XP SP3 itself.
The most important part of SP2 is an new firewall program to stop break-ins by network worms such as Blaster. Unlike XP's earlier firewall, this one is turned on automatically and protects every connection on a computer -- even if you already have another firewall active. It also watches what your programs do; if one wants to open its own channel of communication with the Internet, you'll need to approve this action.
Microsoft has come under increased pressure from Google and other competitors, which have won customers by putting out products more quickly. This re-org at Seattle may be one of the several reasosn to to delay shipment of XP SP3 in favor of Windows Vista.

SP2 halved and quarted P2P and even bitorrent speeds it was almsot my cable was turn into crappy DSL 0-o.
"NORMAL" ftp, http surfign and downlaoding seemd uneffected for the most part but I am a power downloader and messing with my speeeds I pay 50 a month for is a no no 0-o
I also noticed SP2 is needed/wanted by some blue tooth drivers hell even some video card drivers want SP2 (cough ATI cough cough) so will SP3 fix this?
It also seems SP2 incresses securty by removeing so many open ports and such it effects download and I have tried the unoffcail fix and turnign off the firewall and it didnt work 0-o,they could at least give you the choice but nnooo......since XP hates power downlading and some 16bit apss I gave up on it,however 1 thing I ahve not tried it go full firewall and get the address and port listings and put that info into my downloading programs.
Whats so good about vista? its less compaitable than XP in software and hardware is it not? 0-o

Its early days for SP3, we'll find out more about it when it gets closer to the time.
ATM Vista is less compatable in terms of software and hardware because, its not standardised yet. When XP was first released it had terrible backwards compatability with exisitng hardware and software, because everyone was still running Win 9X, which wasn't an NT based OS.
It takes time, in reality Microsoft don't make their OS's around current exisitng software/hardware, they "future-proof", its a clever move on Microsoft's part as they don't have to bother releasing new OS everytime there's a step forward in technonogy. One of the few reasons I like Windows TBH! ;)

Microsoft tried to get around that with Compatability mode, which in some cases does work, although for really old games like DOS games, you've got no chance, but thats what DOS Box is for! ;)

Thje delay of SP3 looks like some Microsoft's Plans to dump Windows XP in the trash and concentrate on Windows Vista. classical when they want to drop support with older versions

Joy well m$ messed up on the comapliblty of XP if it had that and support it correctly it would have been better than Vista..to me Vista is pointless....

If Microsoft saw it like that, we would all be still using Windows 95. As I explained before, as hardware advances so does software! ;)
