It's becoming wery popular to rip your DVD movies. :hands:

For me this is wery new. ;)
I've recently got a program called "Super DVD Ripper", and I don't know how good the program is cuz I haven't tried other DVD rippers. :dance1:
I've seen some screenshots of a program called DVD2ONE :blacool (http://www.dvd2one.com/

I just want to know what program you're using, or what you think is best.
PLZ vote, and post why you're using that program.
(If your'e voting "Others" please post what program, and why you're using it)

umm, why are you asking for reputation points??? What are reputation points anyhow? Why am I asking these questions? Good question, I dunno, ignore all that.

If you rip a movie with DVD Shrink it uses 4-7 Gigs of HD (And a lots of files(I hate to find the right file), 100% DVD quality(with menu's, extras etc.))

But with Super DVD Ripper it uses ca. 650-700 mb of HD (in one file, with 99% DVD quality(excluding menus, extras etc.))

SO I recommend Super DVD Ripper. :hands:
No one ever looks at the extras anyway, so it's waste of space :graysighw

umm, you can set up dvd shrink to turn a full dvd into a 650-700mb, you probably wont be able to tell the difference between a 650-700mb dvd movie from a 4 gigabyte one unless you are running a full surround sound setup and have a huge plasma screen TV.

I've only used DVD Decrypter, which I've found to be very good so far.

Shrinking movies no longer bothers me since I've recently bought a DL writer.

I use PSP9 to shrink them for the PSP(straight from the vobs).

In the past I used dvd2dvdr with Cinema Craft Encoder. Excellent results but WAY too slow.

thankyou for that bit of pointless information.

I am going to for once backup a dvd with everything attached (menus and stuff), it might take longer and my mum might get a little upset I am not making them like the trusted VHS we all know and love(d), that are simply insert and play but heck, I wanna see how much 'quality' is oging to be lost.

ANyway, I'm having troubles converting a bunch of avi's of a cartoon series that predates most of the MG forums members date of coming into being, if not all (and I am serious :P) and for some reason the menu's arent working properly on the dvd player. The shading that goes over the little thumbnail that is the episode selection screen doesnt show on the dvd player, though it shows on the computer :P, I have waisted 3 dvds trying to make it work. Can anyone solve this problem? No? thought so :)

Yes that last part was offtopic but I kind of want to brag about how much I know about dvd players and stuff compared to everyone else ;)

If you want to use clonedvd, you need anydvd running in the background (that's the program that gets around the copy protection). DVDXCopy was a great program for movie back-ups as well (unfortunately, 321Studios went out of business), but they had that annoying screen that showed up in the beginning of a movie. But anyway, Super DVD Ripper is prob my favorite program for putting movies onto a harddrive.

DVD Shrink is the best program out there for quality. I find the other programs compress it needlessy and take quite a bit longer then DVD Shrink.

There is no best one, just better and better ones, especially to softwares.
So softwares need to upgrade.

In fact, what I am using is Pavtube DVD Ripper.
It is used to convert DVD to many other video and audio formats, such as AVI, MPEG, WMV, MOV, MP4, MP3 compatible with iPod, iPhone, PSP, Zune.

I prefer the progam Pavtube DVD Ripper as its after-sale service is good. Last month, I encountered a problem and sent it to them, they replied and solved my problem on time.

So I think when choosing an appropriate program for ourselves, we should consider not only its quality, functions, but also its after-sale service.

I use Clone DVD mobile, combined with AnyDVD. No protection problems, and nice quality with 700mb size.

Same here. I used to be a fan of the DVD Shrink + DVD Decrypter combo back in the day, but now AnyDVD/CloneDVD work perfect, well worth the money.

Same hear

but I am off DVD's or disks of any kind for that matter I would rather just have the avi/mkv/ETC and use a external hdd or networked streaming on a HTPC
no more scratched lost disks and with how far divx etc has come you an still get that HD quality and that a 1Tb HDD is so cheap any more

I think with thumb drives and external hdd in the next 10 years it will be very hard to find people still using / selling disks for any thing it will go the way of the Floppy drive

Thats why I use Clone DVD mobile, it converts me movie into nice 700MB .avi file. Then I keep it on external disk or burn it to DVD, if I fill up the disk.
