Patch for HL2 - No steam?

I did a search but only find whole downloads and weird cracks that don't work.
I actually own HL2 (US, 5-cd version) and am sick of these steam updates ruining the damn game, even after a year! Game gets choppier and choppier after each FORCED update, so I'd like to know is there any kind of patch (for the US 5-cd version) that I can apply right after installing the game so I can rid myself of the need for Steam forever?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks...!

Thank you, I followed the instructions and it worked like a charm! With the exception of the absence of chapter titles, the game worked flawlessly.

Fu-- you Steam, I have no use for you and will never install your ++++ty software again on my machine.

Again, thanks to Pjspliff and DaGamesta and all the others who contributed to cracking this fantastic game so unfortunately weighed down by something so profoundly lame and slipshod as Steam.

Yep, almost all hl2 mods will working with the current s.e-patch.
