I used a program called STEAMDOWN to get the half life 2 gcf files from the valve's official server.(that will show that tub of lard how good his copyprotection is :disturbed)
STEAMDOWN lets you play them too but i works just like steam.
Its just like steam client but lets you get the stuff for free with no keys just make a new steam account DO NOT USE YOUR EXISTING STEAM ACCOUNT and pick any steam game to get.that is all there is to it.
you still need a internet connection to play because it needs to log on

my question:
is there is a program that can run gcf files with out any kind of steam client or an internet connection.

if you know of any sutch program please post

As coppa says, it's legal if he's got the original (if I read that all correctly.) Although in all honesty, I'd say it'd be easier to just use the cds/dvd. What can't you get set up?

authentication
takes FOREVER
i bet its is just downloading hl2 off steam
then whats the point of the installing or the "preload"
sell us steam keys for $50
and have everyone download it or better yet, let people buy the game and play it.

anyway there are enough steam bashings on the net already
:run:
i got the steam down thing working so i only need help running the gcf flies without a steam client if that is possible

authentication takes FOREVER...
What were you up on? I mean, for me it was not "a long wait" to play HL2 (<50mb download).
:run: :enforcer:

And there is a way without steam... called "no-Steam" Emulators ;)
Try search-function
