thnx in advance. I have a intel p(4) 2400ghz, 1 1/2 gb ram, fx5400 video card with a 256 vid memory running windows 2000, hyperthreaded. any ways heres the probelm my computer overheated like 2 days ago i got it running later that night but the next morning my brother came over to use it and like not even 5 minutes after he turned it on it crashed on him like it did when it overheated the night before but the computer wasnt even hot and had been off all night any ways since it crashed on my brother I can't get it to even boot half the time and if it does boot it only stays on for like 3 or 4 minutes before it crashes and then when i get it started again it says the computer was shut down due to a thermal event (overheating) i have checked to make sure that nothing came disconected or lose I have tried taking the covers off, tried putting a giant house fan in front of it but the same thing happens every time I tried using an avg recovery disc
I even tried bootin up using a lynux and a windows disc and nothing works , and i checked the tempetures in the bios I dont remember what tempeture was for what but all 3 temps were all around 90f so if any one has any ideas I am open for any suggestions. please respond asap thnx.

I got it working fine again it was some wierd virus in a program my siter in law downloaded.

Check the cpu fan first. Try removing it and cleaning the fan and the heatsink then apply new thermal compund and try again.
