CD drive problem

My cd/dvd driver HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4240N wasn't reading cds so someone suggested to uninstall it then run windows update and so I unistalled it and I can't find the software so it doesn't even say I have a D drive in my computer I have a Compaq Presario 2568AP can someone plz help me.

sounds like a faulty dvd rom. try finding the driver on www.driverguide.com

Does it read dvd's?? if so.. i think it will be a lens problem.. you tried a lens cleaning disk in it?

Use a lens cleaning disk! If that doesn't fix it,Buy a new dvd-rewriter
