metal gear solid 2 saving

ok i feel quite idiotic to ask this question but i know that in the first mgs, if i started a easy game, beat it, and then save it. then i would start another game in normal mode, save it and it would overwrite my first game, but if i got the stealth it would steel be there, it would know that i already beat it, is it the same case for mgs2? iv already beaten the game on easy, but i dont want to start a normal game then save it to my game that i beat on easy? am i right, or can i still save it in the originally saved game? thanks
