I have a mpeg video file and I want to save the sound of that file into mp3 format.
How do I do that?

strip out the audio to wav, then convert to mp3.

ummm virtualdub will let you strip the audio iirc.

The quality of the wav\mp3 file is not very good.

Use Avidemux and then follow the tutorial on their website. Avidemux is free on http://avidemux.sf.net

Once you have the audio, if you need to clean it up, use http://audacity.sf.net <- free audio editing software. You may need to download and install libmp3.dll, but the instructions are on their website :)
