So I managed to JUST get my hands on San Andreas for PC right before it was pulled from shelves, and I was quite eager to start playing it, having been traveling for a month and not having played any games for that period. Sadly, though, everything went fine until I booted up the installed game. The resolution was too low, and the graphics looked generally crappy, so I went to display, then advanced settings to try and change the video mode to make it look better.

However, when I did this, the game alt tabbed me back into windows, and was minimized in a corner; it then gave me a message that there was an error with gta_sa.exe and asked me to send an error report to Microsoft. I have tried updating my Directx, but I already had 9c; I tried updating my video drivers, and once I finally found them, that did...nothing.

Let me know if anyone knows of a way to solve this problem, or if not that, a way of changing the resolution from outside of the game.

My system specs:

IBM T41 series laptop
ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 Graphics
512 MB RAM
1.6GHZ Intel Pentium M processor
Creative Labs External USB 5.1 Soundcard

Let me know if there are any other specs you need that could help with figuring this out. Thanks a bunch all!

I also got crap with this game. got the same thing as urs Radeon 8500.

I tried to optimize gfx with Radlinker and game got corrupt. Same thing happened with ATI TRAY TOOLS.

I just deleted the GTA folder in the "MY DOCUMENTS" that has the saves and config files. try deleting the config files first or bakup them up and then delete.
Then try the game. it should be playable by then. if not then uproot the whole folder.

I think that teh game engine is not highly versatile. For instance, i switch to 1024x768 and the mgfx go wild just for no reason. how stupid can this get!
