TO add subtitles to a movie (.avi) you will need these programs:
1)Sub2ssa
2)VirtualDubMod (look also for : subtitler.vdf and put in in the folder where you will install VDB)
(try downloading from eMule , its a shareware.. i think).

lunch up Sub2ssa and click open(at the top), choose your subtitle file AND THEN your movie file.

under open you will see select. click it and choose where would you will to save the .ssa which will be created.
after that go to Select font and choose the font you want.
next, click on the square next to the :"Use Playbak resolution to resize fonts".

finally click "Convert to SSA" and exit the program.

Next, open VirtualDubMod.
1) File-> OPen-> your .avi movie
2) Video->Filters->Add->Load-> go to where you put subtitler.vdf and click open
3)Now it will take you back to the list of filters. Double-click on : Subtitler - Avery Lee
4)click the three dot from the top right and choose the .SSA file that you created. Be sure to check that the first box is checked and only it, and q/0.
5)exit the filter tab (by pressing OK all the time)
6) VIdeo->Compression (compress with your best tool. I highly recommned Divx 5.2.1)
7) File->Save as .avi (choose the spot where you want the subtitled movie to be saved to)
8) ENJOY !!

if you want to change the .avi to vcd or svcd or DVD visit the outstanding site :

it got the guides and programs for all kind of work with movies.
