Help I can't access folders on my friends hard drive!

For some reason my friends hard drive crashed and I put it in a removable tray to get the files off of his Hard Drive onto mine. The only problem is I can't access his files in his documents and profiles folder on the HD. It tells be "access denied." This is his harddrive in my computer. How do I change rights management to access his computer files? He was running xp pro before his computer crashed. Thanks for any help!

The computer you do this from must be running XP Pro. The computer you see this being done on is a data backup job I did for a customer.
