i have installed hl2, and after starting the program about 5 times, a message comes up telling me that windows is trying to configure it. This happened once before, so i completly removed it, and re-installed it, but its happening again... any ideas as to whats happening...

Can you upload an image of the message?
use-> www.imageshack.us

And btw, what kind of windows are you running?
Do you meet the requirements, for running HL2?

thanks Pjspliff... i ran installation again, by choosing change in the add/remove section of the control panel, said to modify installation, and cause it was already installed finished really quick, and now it is all working good again.... bats me what happened... But the message that came up, was just the installer staring to run again.... except it was taking heaps long.

By the way, i am running xp sp 2, on a 3.4 p4, with hyperthread... 512 ddr ram and a ati radeon x300 seris card... 128 ram.... so not sure if software problem or not.

Does that fault happen, when you are trying to connect to Steam? Do you have the latest drivers for your GPU and the latest Direct X?
