Hello to all at MG, I am brand spanking new to forums, so please forgive me if I am out of place at all.
The situation that I would greatly appreciate some aid with, is that of making a Backup of my "SHELLSHOCK nam' 67" game.
The problems I have are; (a) it is a PC DVD-Rom and (b) my inexperience with PC games on this media.
I have tried DVD Decrypter and Alcoholer 120%, both to no avail.
Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.

it probably uses securom, so your best bet is usuing blindwrite 5, get it from http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/BlindWrite/971418981/1. First close any programs you dont need. Insert your dvd, first you need to make an image. Select the read tab on the left, locate you dvd, and select a destination for you image. Now go to settings first and, and click on general at the top, select the slowest reading speed possible, preferably 1x (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, lol). Now click out of settings, and select a destination for your image. Then make sure the profile is on automatic, and start reading. To burn, insert your blanc dvd, click on the write tab, make sure you are still using the slowest speed possible, for writing, this is VERY IMPORTANT! make sure the profile is on automatic and start writing. This should produce a working backup copy of your game.

Try CloneCD or CloneDVD, or try creating an image of the disc.
Welcome to MegaGames too. :)

I (he) tried the link for Blindwrite, downloaded Blindwrite 5 (trial edition) and found there were no apparent speed settings. So I set it to Normal, which was as close to general as i could find, and gave it a shot.
Unfortunately it still did not work, I keep getting this message:
"Please insert the original disc instead of a back up."

Its under options, then settings. Otherwise try the older version of blindwrite, i will guide you though to get the best results. Here is the link. Do try it. http://www.vso-software.fr/download.htm# the older version is ''blindwrite 4.5.7 its under the main blindwrite download.

by the way did you set the profile to normal, if you did it wont work, it NEEDS to be set to automatic so it reads the physical data from the dvd, theredfore making a woking backup.

try it again with profile AUTOMATIC, and change the speed settings under options (at the top) the settins, this should work, remember automatic, it wont work under any other profile.

let me know how it goes. If you are using blindwrite 5 correctly under the automatic profile, after it reads the disc, it will extract a ''topology'' physical information layer.

Yo tim!
You better not spam like this, or the mods will have you.
If you have so much to say, write it in one post instead of 5 posts!

Can you please not use green font because it is hard to read on a grey background!

No worries, green font is gone.
1_Tim_1, I tried the slower setting for BW5 and still had no success. I have downloaded v. 4.5.7 as suggested. Please continue with your instructions.

its not just the speed on blindwrite 5, did you use the automatic profile?
for the older version you need to make and image of the dvd, then use BWA creator to make the physical information. Then go to write and select the DAO-PW write method. (click yes when asked to add BWA information) sorry about the vauge reply but i am in a library and have to log off. try Blindwrite 5 on automatic first,

Thanks for your help, i got it to work, with the aid of a fixed exe. It plays just aswell as my Original copy, minus the DVD.
So my next question is (here we go again...) how am I able to put the patch, in a folder, onto a DVD (with the game) so I don't have to download the patch again in the future?
Thanks, and sorry for all the trouble.
