Hi guys,

I have the following system specs:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+
K8N Neo Motherboard
512mb DDR 3500 ram
geforce fx 5700 256mb video card
200gb 7200rpm western digital drive
Windows 2000 (have tried xp, same thing)

But when I run games such as The Sims 2 and Guild Wars I am getting slower framerates than my brother, who has the following machine:

AMD Athlon XP 2000+
512mb DDR 2100 ram
ATI Radeon 9500 128mb
80gb 7200rpm western digital
Windows XP

What gives? Could it be something in the drivers? My brother uses onboard sound, while I use an M-Audio Audiophile Delta 24/96 (which is a very high-end card I need for my mixing purposes) and even when I disable sound completely framerates are very slow at times - with the sims 2, the game just hangs there often...

And I should point out that in both of these games I am running at VERY low specs (lowest graphics, very low resolutions such as 800x600) - my brother runs at 1280x1024 and gets better framerates than me.

Does anybody have some ideas?
Thanks in advance!
-Andrew

Ok, if your games lagging its probably because sometings using up resources. Im going to assume your not that used to windows. If you go to the taskbar(start menu whatever you want to call it) and right click it, a little menu will come up. Go to Task Manager and then go to the processes tab. Click the MEM Usage collunm(the actual title) once or tize to get it to organise the thing by size. Just select which ever ones usings the highest memory and click end process. Do not do that if it has SYSTEM after it. Windows needs all those to run which is very annoying if your low on space. You should also close Nvidia's task manager thing. It uses too many resources and does absolutely nothing. But sims 2 should not be lagging on your computer. Try it on a computer thats not so good and see if its your actual cd thats the problem.

It's strange... I never had such problems with sound while my card is as old as my grandmother...
Anyways, it sure feels strange to know you work on windows :D

Yeah, I installed it temporarily so I could do sound mixing and play Guild Wars - that is, until my powerbook gets here. That will be ordered within the end of the month.

Guild Wars a great game, by the way - you guys should try it out :)
