Hi@all
Well, I really made it - I used the method mentioned by DeathKeeper (Link: http://www.mgforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=249623#post249623)
..and it really worked... HL2 starts without steam.
Then I put the whole HL2 (steamless-)package on DVD - about 3,16 gigs - and its also possible to start the games directly from DVD...
BUT - there is still a strange problem : When I try exactly the same thing on my 2nd PC to start the game directly from DVD - an error appears: "Couldn īt load the file FileSystem_Steam.dll..:"
(it doesnīt make a difference if I try it to run from DVD or from HD -- on the 2nd PC it simply doesnt work....)
Why??? :redno:
I dont understand!!?
Why does it just work on one PC though there is always exactly the same version?
Why does HL2 load the "FileSystem_Steam.dll file" on the first PC - but not on the 2nd?

this is very insteresting, but im guessing you still cant play it online, right?
As for the file, try and locate it in the 1st PC and just copy it over to the second???
If your installing from the same dvd, then i suspect its in the temp files somewhere...

What he means is there's some file on the first PC which is needed by the second PC, he's suggesting this file may be in the temp files somewhere. As for what this file is or where it is exsactly I have no idea.

My neighbour told me that sometimes when he burns a DVD it happens that this DVD ONLY works on the PC where it was burnt....
He used Nero Burning Rom - so did I.....
IS this possible?
IS there a way to solve this problem?

If this msgbox appears it means that you've startet HL2 without an shorcut (...HL2\hl2.exe -steam)
try that, hope it FiX0rs :)

hmmm....didnt work... :(
It possible that I did something wrong with the shortcut but on the other hand: If thats the problem - why does it work on the first pC?

I have still no Idea how to solve the problem - is it possible that NeroBurning Rom has something to do with it?
And pla tell me again how this shortcut should like exactly - maybe thats really the problem...

I suggest , if you have downloaded the GCF's legally, you search for a programm called "NON Steam Down", it makes it possible to play ALL your downloaded Steam Games offline and 100% steam free. Btw it works like a charm
Have fun

Yes I use legal GCFs - but the game should run without an additional program because I unpacked all the files
...and as I mentioned before - on PC number 1 it works on number 2 - it doesnt.....
