DVD-R double layer problem

hello

i just got a DVD-/+ RW DL drive and some +R DL disks
my problem is that when i try to backup a DVD 9 game or a movie .... the burner doesnt recognize the disk as a DVD9 most times it doesnt find it at all (alcohol 120% , nero) and in clone dvd i get a message DISK NOT LONG ENOUGH ....DVD5 burns great at 16X but it just doesnt find the DL ones ......is this a disk, burner or softwere problem ..... i have a 3 pack of the disk and all 3 didnt wanna work

ive never burned a DVD9 yet so can someone help me troubleshoot???

You will have to update the DVD-RW Firmware. Best place will proberbly be here:

i looked for it on there and i couldnt find it
ill check other areas of the internet to find the firmwere

the burner is (DYNEX)on the box (LG) on the front of the burner and
HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA-4161B in control panel .....so i guess ill look for that than
also on the box it says that it comes with a S/W disk but there wasnt one ....should i go to best buy and ask 4 one or thast not what i need??
