Can anyone suggest a decent DL DVD burner to buy, or are they all more or less the same ?
Samsung, Sony or Lite-on ??

None of the above. They're all good brands, but IMO, NEC is a lot better. NEC 16X Double Layer DVD±RW Drive, Black (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=27-152-035&depa=0). More color choices here (http://www.newegg.com/app/searchProductResult.asp?Submit=go&Range=1&InnerCata=5&DEPA=0&bop=and&description=nec&srchInDesc=double+layer+16x&srchFor=16X)

Here's where you'll start yet another major arguement over the best burner.
Personally, I have the NEC 16x Dual Layer (3520A) and I find that it hasn't let me down once. It burns fast all the time and works great for me. Saying that the Plextor 16x A09/109 is said to be the best around.
Now, there is a new comer on the block to the Dual layer market and if you have some extra bucks, you may wanna try out the HP LightScribe 16x Double Layer DVD+/-R/RW. It can do some funky stuff with the top of the disc, check it out: http://search.hp.com/redirect.html?type=REG&qt=HP+LightScribe&url=http%3A//www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/press_kits/2004/ces/bg_lightScribe_technology.pdf&pos=5
Anyhow, those are the 3 I would recommend looking at. I think most folks on this site would probably say the same.
Regards
Too late....Didnt get a quick enough reply so I bought the Samsung, mainly because it burns dual layer at x4 compared to the rest I looked at which only did x2.4
Burned my first 2 off last night with no problems.....It was only £35 for the drive so if it turns out to be crap then Ive got no probs buying another at that price.

Forget ASUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They have the worst support service in History!!!!!! I had a problem with one of their motherboards (their fault - factory flaw) and it took the almost 3 (!!!) months to replace it!!!
If you want to go with the best and can afford it buy the Pioneer 109XL DVD RW. It's a bit on the pricy side (if you buy it with the added software of course, which is some good apps by Ulead) but it burns Double Layer at 6X.
It reads most about everything....
Only flaw: only burn/reads CD's at 40x. But, what the hell, the difference to a 52 or even 56x recorder is minimal - hardly noticiable at all.
Hope it helps. You can still change your Samsung

The Pioneer 108 is just as good as the 109 btw!
