.mds is a file especially Alchol 120%. Use this software to burn this type of file.
You may need to use special techniques to boot up your backups on your psx.
ex.) mod chip or knife/swap method.

I got alcohol and burnt the game at 8x speed.

the ps2 only recognised the cd as an audio cd.... and it was playing tracks from the games soundtrack....

wtf?

ok. so my friend brought over some of his backup games last night. He said he backed them up from original games and that they worked on his machiene. When placing these games in my machiene they would not work. Sometimes, the ps2 would think that it was an audio cd, and play the soundtrack songs from the inserted game.

We tried an original game he had and that worked. So. Is it my machiene? I think it might be.

My mod chip is a magic ice revolution. Can someone give me some information as to whether this chip plays backup psx games. Or any other reason why they wont work on my machiene?

Question: How easy is backing up MGS 1 for example? What programmes to use etc. What type of blank CD. Cheers.

Do I just click copy CD with nero? Is it that easy?

Do I just click copy CD with nero? Is it that easy? You can follow these guidelines for successfully backing up your PSX game:

Extracting with Nero Burning ROM. (*.NRG)
Insert original game. Open Nero Burning ROM.
Click on ‘Recorder’ > Select ‘Choose Recorder...’ (or Ctrl+R)
Choose Recorder dialog appears > Select the 'Image Recorder' > OK.
Click on 'Recorder' > Select 'Copy Disk...' (or icon 'Creates a copy of a disk').
New Compilation dialog appears.
Copy Options > Uncheck 'On the fly' > Select your source drive > Select lowest speed available.
Image > Click 'Browse' to save your image on the HD > Uncheck 'Delete image file after disk copy'.
Burn > 'Write' checked > Click 'Copy', and it starts to burn your game on your HD.
Burning with Nero Burning ROM.
1. Insert blank media. Open Nero Burning ROM.
2. Click on ‘Recorder’ > Select ‘Burn Image’.
3. 'File open' dialog appears > Select the *.NRG file you created > Click ‘Open’.
4. Nero's 'Burn DVD' dialog appears. Write 'checked' > Select lowest speed available.
5. Click ‘Burn’, to create the picture DVD.

This was taken from Fantasyghost's post on how to make PS2 backups. It's pretty much the same technique to use for psx.;)
