Hello all,

I use DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink to backup my movie DVDs.

Problem is, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

If I play them on the PS2 or the LG DVD player, all seems to be well for the first hour or so and then I usually get some problems:
Picture freezes and the DVD won't play, or
Picture and sound go jumpy, or
Get a disc error sayinmg there are problems reading / accessing etc.

(However, some backups will play from start to finish without incident.)

I usually use DVD Shrink to take out foreign language chapters etc, so as to get the compression rate better - this shouldn't effect anything, should it?

If I put the DVD in the PC straight away, it will generally play fine.
I have a dual layer Pioneer internal burner.

It's almost as if when the media gets hot, the problems start. Most times, the DVD will play for a while before the problems happen. Sometimes, I can go back to the title, find the chapter where the problems were, and it will play through the part where it previously had problems and then present problems at another part of the disc.

I have only ever used Laser blanks - DVD -R. Current batch is 8x. I had previoosly tried Laser DVD -R , 4X and still had some issues.

It sounds like media to me. (I don't think hardware as the DVD's play fine on the PC. It would be hard to claim problems with the Recorder when all functions well at the PC level.)

Any ideas / recommendations?

Thanks,

Steve

Gidday again,

I've been reading about Ritek blanks.

I can get inkjet printables here in Australia, but some are Go4 and some are G05 dye setups.

I can't find anything on the Ritek site. Which is the best way to go and what is the difference?

Cheers,

Steve

Hi again,

Just found out G04 = 4x and G05 = 8x.

If I get the Ritek media, should I try the 4x blanks and burn slower. Would this make the data more stable for reads etc?

Cheers,

Steve

Try using Dvd+r media!

The media you are using are fine. I suggest you use Dvd decrypter to rip the files to your harddrive and then use Clonedvd 2 to create your dvd. I've used it over time and haven't any problems (skipping, stuttering, etc) at all with my backups.

To me, I use Pavtube DVD Copy to do the trick.
It does not only back up DVD to hard drive, copy DVD to ISO file, but also burn ISO file and DVD folder to DVDs.
