Firstly, hello all.

I'm a ps2 n00b. I just got a modded slimline ps2 yesterday. I've been doing some reading up on how to back up games and such but i am having a) trouble doing it, and b) figuring out what the best way to back games up is.

I simply used the 'copy dvd' option of nero 6 and it worked. However, when i ran it on my ps2 after a few seconds into the intro video (the game was mgs3 by the way) the game would 'freeze' it did this once for a while and resumed, only to freeze again forever. Is this freezing issue bad for the laser? I've heard a lot of talk about being careful with the laser (by the way i burnt the game on a dvd-r)

There seems to be so many different ways of backing them up. (I saw mentions of ppf patches and such WTF?) Surely it shouldnt be much hearder than using nero??

So what am I doing wrong here?

Thanks.

Is your slimline also modified for your laser? There are quite some laser fixes around the internet, because they easely are going to die. And it's not just on modded systems, also on systems right out of the box.

Try with one of the tutorials i've posted for your burning program, maybe it'll work then. http://www.mgforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26798

#1: I burnt at 4x, which is actually my top speed. I didnt really think it would make much of a difference, but I will try again. Thanks

#2: I'm not sure. The guy I biught it off said they fixed up the laser in the new slimlines so it will work. I am not sure what you and the guy I bought it off with means... But thanks for the reading.

Also, are there any programs that migh achieve a better rip of the game? I used blindwrite but it didnt work.

Thanks

DVD Decrypter is free and easy to use, just follow the tutorial and it'll be fine. There's no need to select the speed as DVD Decrypter determines it itself. You can download it at www.dvddecrypter.com

DVD decrypter worked a treat! thanks. now two of the games i tried it on worked burning at 1x just to be safe! thanks.

I do not quite understand all this stuff about laser mods and stuff. can someone please link me to some info as to why there is this laser issue and how to fix it? I hear the machine whirring sometimes and i get worried. I only got this a day ago.... should i be worried?

thanks

The guy you bought it from has already installed a laser fix so i wouldn't be to much worried about it. As where to find info on laser fixes, well there's really quite a few that are out there if you check any modchip selling website you'll notice the laser fixes they sell. at the moment there are about 5 different types. I'm not sure which one is the best though.
