tomorrow it should come out but the sales are really slow and i've read on news.com that it's already been sold out.
Here's the article:
You've seen the big, crystal-clear screen, the action-packed games and the surprisingly easy-on-the-eyes movies playback, and you've decided you have to have a PlayStation Portable. Good luck.
Sony's new handheld game machine and multimedia gadget goes on sale Thursday in North America, but shoppers will have a hard time buying one if they didn't place an advance order.
Major retailers began taking orders for the PSP shortly after Sony announced stateside availability, and most report they've already sold out of their initial shipments. Order now, and you'll get your PSP sometime next month.
The online store for specialty retailer EBGames, for example, cites an April 12 delivery date for PSP packages. Best Buy offered advance orders only to select customers and sold out its supply in a few hours. Amazon partner ToysRUs and specialty retailer GameStop won't promise a delivery date now, saying only that orders will be shipped on a first-come, first-served basis.
You'll need even better luck if you don't want to pay more than the $250 retail price for the standard North American PSP package. Most retailers are only selling the PSP as a part of a "bundle" that includes numerous games and accessories the consumer may not actually want. The cheapest PSP package at Wal-Mart's online store, for example, is $374.45, with one game and a host of hardware add-ons. Most Canadian consumers will have to pay for a package that includes a copy of Sony's "Gretzky NHL" hockey game.
Those who absolutely have to have a PSP next week may want to pull out a sleeping bag and prepare for a long wait in line. Several major retailers, including Circuit City, decided not to take advance orders for the PSP--initial supplies will go to whomever is at the head of the line when stores open on Thursday morning.
San Francisco fans don't have to wait for sunrise, however. Sony is keeping its PlayStation store at the Metreon retail complex open late to begin selling PSPs--one per customer--at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday.
For the truly desperate, there's always auction giant eBay, where the standard North American PSP package is selling for a $100 or so premium over the $250 retail price, but the Japanese package can be had for a little more than $200.

does anybody know when the psp is coming out
Hey ford. It's not that difficult to get a hold on the PSP. I work for a popular video game retailer. Of course our first shipment was sold before we got it but as of right now we only have maybe 10 ppl for the second which should be coming the beginning of the week. As far as the bundle packs go...I've only seen a couple of retailers off only the bundles and it's usually an option in addition to the $250 package. I think the hardest thing to find is the 1gig memory stick duo. I'm going crazy looking for one. Good Luck.

The 1GB memory stick is really not that hard to find. Just type in "SanDisk 1GB memory stick", you'll find lots of sites selling them.
what the memory stick for ???

what the memory stick for ???It's good for various things. (kinda like a memory card for Psone or PS2) Such as game saves, mp3s, videos and such. But to store and play movies you would need atleast 1 gigabyte memory stick.
I just picked one up from a retail store right near my house. I paid like $120 for it. The max I have ever seen for a 1 gig duostick is $220.
Just to say, my brother got the PSP quite easily on the release date from Best Buy. We just walked right in and got one -- no bundles, just the game system itself.
We paid 250 or so for it.
Same at the Blockbuster I work at, we have plenty.

Yeah every place i've been to that sold them said that didn't even come close to selling out of them. I have friends a Circuit city and Best buy, and even Mediaplay. They all said that the sale for it were weak.

i've read it recently that sales are weak because sony didn't make any advertisment on tv ect. So most hardcore gamers already got theirs, but people that don't know anything about consoles didn't even know what a psp was.

Thats one reason I suppose. But most of the people knew about it i think. I mean it was in a LOT of news papers the week before it came out. Most people even the non hardcore gamers I know just didn't wanna spend that much. And the hardcore gamers I know didn't wanna spend that much for something that only had 4 hours of battery life, and still had some other problems.

These kind of features may even cause the sales of PDAs and palm pilots to fall. All of these for $300 or a PDA for $1000, What would you choose? secondly the battery of the PSP is not four hours, it is 6-8 hours (for me anyways:p)

I'm not saying that all of them had problems, just a number big enough to worry about. And the PSP already has a web browser in it, they are just going to "unlock it". And it looked about the same as the one on my cell phone. I don't think this will ever impact the sales of PDA's. The DS with the touch screen is more like a PDA than the PSP is. The ability to write in the stuff you need is just to valuable for people trying to enter stuff in quickly. I can't see this ever replacing my Ipaq. And I palyed one just the onther night at a friends house while he was playing Halo, at full charge it lasted four hours and about 10 mins. Lol, and if you payed $1000 bucks for a PDA man did you get taken!

I can assure you that the web browser you have seen is in no way like a web browser for a cell phone. They are completly different. Also, sony is not only planning on releasing just a web browser but all office apps like word processing, spreadsheets, emails, etc. If they can manage to pull this off, all others are pointless. And as far as the DS, it is no where near as where the PSP is. Sony is just getting started.

i'm wondering would they be able to put GPS on those PSP's, because i've got a tomtom go, paid 700€ for it. I know there are like these ipaq hp's with these functions also sorta like a pocket pc. But still PSP has games, movies and mp3 on there :D

Just responding to your little comment there. Your right, if you don't need one for buisness applications or for work they are usless. But for me I use it to keep track of home and work stuff. And even if Sony did release all the office apps, if I had to use those controls to put in all my contacts or put a few notes in or type an Email, that would take forever. With the touchscreen I can just scribble it in real fast and be done with it. And your right, the web app in my cell is Java bases, I don't know what the PSP uses but it is different. I didn't say it WAS the same kind as my cell phone but they way they displayed web pages reminded me of it. And I don't see all other being pointless, Nintendo won't be that easy to get rid of. I think to be a more serious threat Sony needs to drop some of the extras that come with the PSP and lower the price to something more resonable. I mean between the two if your ma or pa trying to pick one for your kid what are you going to go with?

I would, however disagree with the lowering of the price. Think about for a sec, there are portable dvd players out there that go for either the same price or higher. What you get then? An ipod comes for atleast $200-$300. What then? I for one, happen to think that this a very reasonable price.
As far as the choice from between the Ma and Pa deal, I would still end up getting another PSP (assuming you are talking about DS and PSP)
@FG: Exactly what I was just thinking. That wouldn't be a bad thing to have.:D

Well i'm not sure what point your trying to make, but if sony thinks that the mass public is going to buy movies for that thing at 20 bucks a pop then they are sadly mistaken. Music I guess I can see that, but it's a little to big for me to use as an MP3 player, thats what my iriver is for (1 GIG). Sony just is releasing a download movie serivce I guess for the PSP, but the question i've been reading is how are you supposed to get them on the PSP.
And ma and pa would be more likely to go for the DS because of the price difference. The sales number already kinda prove that.

And who has the numbers!? There is not one Sony PSP in southern California right now everyone has been sold out. Also there is a GPS usb atatchment that is coming out and 3rd the PSP screen is far above any PDA I have ever seen in quality! Did you know that the PDA market uses 65,000 colors for screens as a standard? The PSP has 16.7 million colors how do you like them apples.
The DS numbers are higher because it had a 6 month jump on sony. But comeon would you rather play rub the pokemon on DS or Grandtheft Auto on the PSP?

lol, chill man...I was going of the Best buy and Circuit city sales figures. Southern Cal must have been about the only place then. Both my buddies said that the sales for those things were luke warm at best.....and I was talking about first day launch sales not where the DS is at today. Lol, i never said it didn't have a better picture, the pic on that thing is awsome. It's one of the best things about it.
