I'm having trouble playing soul reaver 1 under windows xp. I found "this" (http://www.thelostworlds.net/SR1-XP.HTML) link where they explain how to do so, but it doesn't work for me. Has anyone been able to play this game on winXP?

the problem is (or at least for me) when i double click the game icon the screen goes black and then i get a windows error message asking if i want to report it. then the game quits
i tried compatibility mode, i tried the winxp patch, but nothing seems to work

That the same problem I have and the xp patch didn't work for me either I have spending time searching on th eidos forums, google and I can't find how to fix it
The only I way I found to make it work was making dual booting and re-installing win 98 on other partition but the game only want to run on software mode, not direct x that of course i don't like it, looks very pixelated
if anyone know know how to make to work this buggy game s better please let us know

The problem is if you have too good graphic card. I have GeForce 6600GT and I have the same problem. I uninstaled nvidia drivers and the game worked, but it is impossible to use computer withouth drivers.
I already make a post on nvidia forum and I hope that they can make good drivers that Soul Reaver 1 will work on new graphic cards.

All those who have winXP please write here which graphic card do you have, which drivers and if Soul Reaver works on your PC. Thanks.

After few days of searching and testing in program VMware I found a partial solution.
In settings of graphic card under "Troubleshoot" I must to reduce "Hardware acceleration" (picture). The solution is partial because in the geme are no movies, but the game works.
The movies works only in program VMware, but something is wrong with menu in game. Menu pulsing and the game sometimes works slow (glitch).
Now I will see if I will play without movies, good menu and smooth game or with movies, pulsing menu and occasionally slow game.

Yes,I have the same problem like yours guys.I've done everything possible, but I Fix it using the official site.
follow the following instructions
Graphics Tearing, Blue Screen, or Crashing with nVidia GeForce 4, GeForce FX and ATI Radeon 9000 series.
If you have a GeForce 4, GeForce Fx, or RADEON 9000 series video card and are getting "torn" or missing graphics in Soul Reaver 2 you must make the following adjustment in the Windows Registry:
Please use Caution when editing the Windows Registry! Changes made here can affect your computer is serious ways.
Go to the Start Menu and select Run. Type in 'regedit' (no quotes) and hit OK. This will open the Registry Editor.
Click the "+" next to My Computer to expand the menus. Click the "+" next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER, then click the "+" for Software, then the "+" for Crystal Dynamics, then the "+" for Soul Reaver 2, and finally click the "+" next to 1.00.000.
In the window to the right under Name... RIGHT-CLICK on DisableVShader and select MODIFY.
Change VALUE DATA: from 0 to 1, then click OK.
Exit the Registry Editor.
You should now be able to launch Soul Reaver 2 and enjoy the game.

After some months of problems I finally get able to run Soul Reaver 1 on XP,
Like some user said on a previous post, the problem are indeed the nvidia drivers not the game itself with win xp, What I did was downgrade to the 52.16 drivers and I got past the black screen I had but when the intro video was starting I got another problem a BSOD and my computer restarted then I unplugged my joystick and the restart problem dissapeared and I got the game to work on Direct3d mode not the annoying software mode I prfeviously had on win 98
I believe but without being completelely sure the problem with my joystick was the forcefeedback that give a lot of problems with other games too
I hope this help others

To get Soul Reaver to work with XP(SP2), download the XP fix, set the executable to win98 compatibility, lower the vid card to basic (no D3D or OpenGL); then for sound, lower the sound acceleration to basic. The only problem you will have is: no video. Last I heard the last GeForce driver set to work with Soul Reaver was in the 33.x area.
The problem is with the service packs, a clean ( no SP's) of Windows XP will run SR, last I heard anyway.
To lower vid acceleration --> Right click desktop, go to properties, select Settings tab, go to advanced. Your moniter properties will come up. Select the Troubleshoot tab (for Geforce)... I have a GF 3.
To lower sound acceleration --> go to control panel, select Sounds and Audio Devices, Under Volume -- go to Advanced, then go to Performace.
I, like others, have been searching for SR issues. My case is the lack of movies. I am fully aware that windows default vid driver set will run the movies, but like you all know, I can not run other games without a up-to-date driver set. The only solution I have is, create a second partition, and don't install the vid driver set.
I have SR up and running just fine (minus movies). I hope this helps some.
