if you have the Silver PS2 or the newer model ones, they should play DVD-R with ease, but i had a first generation PS2 played DVD-R and +R easily, but after awhile i think i stressed my laser and eventually they wouldn't play and games would take ages to load or not load at all.

playing copied movies are illeagal, and a mod will probably close this thread soon. Playing home movies depends on what version DVD you have and what drive the PS2 has. Im not sure if it can play anything other than dvd and PS2 discs.

Playing a movie that has been copied onto a DVD-/+R is not illegal, provided that he/she owns the ORIGINAL movie as well.

I own an older PS2. I've played my backup movies before. Depending on the media type, some will play fine, some may look 'pixelated', and some may not play at all. A modchip is NOT needed to watch DVD-/+R movies. Those are only needed to play games.
