I listen to music on my laptop and the speakers just don't cut it. I use a pair of headphones, they aren't top of the line but they do the job. My question is with Winamp and WMP how do you get good bass? Everything I've tried, equilizer and TruBass settings, have resulted in distortion. I know my headphones are capable of decent bass because when I hook them up to my MD, they're excellent. So is there another setting that I'm not touching that could do the trick?

Have you tried configuring the output plugin DirectSound in preferences ? Maybe something there.

That's all good but which program are you talking about and how do you do it?

In Winamp.
So it doesn't help if you change bass or input volume in the Winamp equalizer ?

It does have some effect but it becomes distorted before I get the bass I really want. Or maybe I just don't really know how to use the equalizer. I merely noticed that the left side affects the bass and the right side affects the treble. I just turned the bass up and the treble down.
