it might have left its preferences in the registry, or an .ini file in the windows folder, or in win.ini

Once you have uninstalled the game, use any one of the following 2 programs...Registry Mechanic or PC Rescue. Both programs hunt for reg files left over from uninstalled programs and software. These will then be deleted from your system leaving the registry clean for a fresh install.

Second option is use your onboard graphics card (if you have one) to launch the game (may look like crap though) but that way you can atleast get in to change the reso back.

And 3rd option is...Buy a new monitor that can support higher reso and refresh rates.

I personally would try option 2 first!

Hope this helps bud.

Open the properties of the shortcut to half-life2 and add in the targetbox "-width 800 -height 600" without the quotes, see if it works

sounds like a refresh rate problem.
try going into the graphic's setup and see if you can override it. set it to something like 60hz and see if that helps
