XP Home SP2 Woes, VERY BAD

I am almost 100% certain my computer is clean of viruses

Anyway, the problem I am having, is executable files, so far they have only been install/uninstall files, do not run! The mouse loading icon appears then disappears the install screen will flash on then off in under a second and the comptuer will make a 'beep' (not from inside the computer, through the speakers, otherwise I would be really worried)

The files I have had trouble with;

Zonealarm Pro
Emule
Kaspersky Anti Virus
AND THE WORST HALF LIFE 2 !!! The "setup.exe" file does not run

To ask the obvise question the HD is not full is it??

40 gb free on 80gb hdd and 6gb free on 40gb hdd(windows)

do u have the latest version of the programs above??
i know zone alarms did not like SP2 when it first came out and u need an update for it.

Try re-installing Windows or removing SP2,as it is incompatible with a lot of programs.

But,the above mentioned softwares have been installed properly on my Sp2
