Hi,

I have a Piodata DVD burner (dual layer model) which is only new.

I have been using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink to do backups, with the first 5 working perfectly.

However, recently all efforts seem to fail. I get to about 99% done on the burn phase and I end up with a "burn failed" error.

The DVD will generally still be readable, to an extent, in the DVD burner and my DVD player, but it will lock up, not allow access to some tracks and the laser sounds like it is jumping around / jamming - real strange noises!

I have also tried burning via Nero from an image and it also has errors.

I have backed up 2 DVD's, for which the software said that it completed successfully, yet do have troubles playing the media in my DVD player.

Would my DVD burner hardware have failed already, after only 8 or so burns or could I have a bad batch of media - strange though that the first 5 burns were perfect.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

What I do is use dvd decrypter and decrypt the dvd files to the harddrive and then I use a program called Clonedvd 2 from elbysoft, to burn the movie. Works for me all the time flawlessly. Search for it on google.

Well ive not heard of that burner before, but you said that 2 backups were burnt successful but you still have trouble playing them,if the media is dodgy then that could also be causing the burn to fail.So i would suggest your try a different dvd media, one that has a different dye. What dvds are you using ..??

Thanks for the replies.

I'm using Laser DVD-R media but as I have had no troubles at all with the first 6 or so burns from the same spindle pack, I think that the media is probably ok.

I spoke to the retailer today and he is going to do a swap for another unit.
Piodata is the oem drive from Pioneer, so I'm hoping it is a reliable unit.

Thnaks again,

Steve
