Half life 2 help!!!

went to the markets and bought half life 2 (copied version), on a dvd wid instructions how to make it all work without steam and that but problem !!! disc wont load, cant access the contents of the disc, says 'insert disc' ??????? wats happening, sumthing wid my system or did the guy jip me, anybody else have this problem ???
