my pc sound was working happily, when one of my mates pc had problems. We swappd HDD's and video cards, to test his equipment. Then i decided to put everything back to the way it was. I did so and now my pc does not find and sound devices. I uninstalled and reinstalled the officail drivers. I formated my HDD and still no sound found? (i use on board sound, giga-byte drivers)

any ideas?

you might of changed something in the bios or you might have disabled it in device manager.

Lol this is a really delayed post. Are there viruses that can really diable your sound card? Because today when i turned on my computer the sound card had disappeared in windows. I checked the sound and audio device properties button and it said there was no sound card installed. I went to windows update and all it updated was security stuff (even though Security Update for Windows XP (KB913446) failed):disgust: I restarted the computer and turned off my external usb drive. And then the sound card worked :artysmil weird huh? so was it turning off the external hard drive or installing not even relavent drivers that fixed it?

There will be viruses out there that can do that, its hard to say if it was a virus or the external HD, you should have kept it turned on and they saw what happened.
