u say u have this problem on a 9600XT eh? thats odd cos im running one and i have no problems, but when i play DoW on a lesser computer of mine, a Geforce MX440 i get the text garbling....
but thats only when i have the graphics on 1024*768 or higher i think, my radeon has np running at all resolutions, but my geforce does......
hope this can help u diagnose the problem... post if u find out!!!

I have tried in on all resolutions that my CRT monitor can do what look to be the problem is that the top of the fonts is not being displayed right.
If this happed on just my machine I would look it to my system however as this happens to a friend how has a simpler system to me and he gets the same problem.
We both have a 9600XT with the up to date drivers

Sounds more like the fonts installed on your system, to be honest.
Have you installed any font packs which could have overwritten some of the default ones? Also, try turning off the "ClearType" rendering if enabled. You'll find it in Display properties under advanced.

with the up-to-date driver you now get for 9600XT you have the Catalyst control center taking over from the standed Display properties
