I've recently noticed, while using my wife's laptop...

When watching a DVD, the PC seems to 'pause' or 'hiccup' for a split second. Then continues playing. While this isn't so bad, it is annoying. What's worse is, I also had this happen...

I tried to play Counterstrike the other night for the first time in a long time. While playing, I also experienced these damned 'hiccups'. Just when I had an enemy in my sights, the video would 'pause' or 'hiccup'. Then... *BLAM* I was dead.

AWFUL!

This problem never occurred before. I played CS when she first bought this laptop a few months back. It worked flawlessly. When it comes to PC problems, I thought I had seen it all. Now, this crap?!?!

Any ideas as to how to fix this nonsense?

Much luv for j00! :D

sounds like a video chip is not being cooled properly... i've never owned a laptop, so i couldn't tell you from experience, but i do have bad experiences with video cards, and the video/rendering does stop for about 10-20 seconds or so when i turn off all my case fans and overclock my gfx chip, but not the split second you described... sorry i couldn't help more...

could be a heating problem. have you tried getting the lastest drivers, like chipset, graphics, directx blah blah??
how about a good defrag in safe mode.
virus scan
adware scan

laptops... I lost a expensive one that was about 1 year old. The motherboard just died. Still not sure exactly why....

Does sound like it could possibly be a heating issue, but im not really sure. I keep away from laptop hardware lol :uhoh:

What os is on it??
Cuz if its xp its prob just bloated and when you watch a movie or play a game CPU load is usually high
Dude imo I would look into thinning it back out to get rid of the CPU spikes

No spyware or viruses. I'm starting to think it may be a heating issue. We'll see.

P.S. It's running XP Home.

just make sure your laptop is on a hard surface. in a cool room.
maybe you should get some caned air and spray it inside your laptop, might be lots of dust blocking the vents.

plus it is cool when u spray on somone's hand or arm :D
just thought i would share the last bit

I wouldn't lean to heat cuz if it’s randomly doing it with no other signs of artifacts then its prob CPU and mem spikes
I would run WINDOW WASHER and get rid of all old temp files on it
Then try something like Norton system works 2k4 and run the reg program
And get a mem defrager+ like CASHMAN XP

Then again I might be wrong but if you haven't given xp (is really the case with home) a good cleaning in a year then I would try it you would be surprised at performance boost you get

The laptop is only a few months old. It's not in need of a 'cleaning' as of yet. :)

I always run Windows Washer, so that doesn't need to be done either. I'm going to stick with the heating issue, for now & let you know. ;)
