Disabled uneeded WinXP Pro Services incorrectly. Everything is gone--sound, web ability, Help and Support, Games, anything requiring input that I've mistakenly disabled--you name it! I'm told to at least turn on RPC. It is now on automatic. When I attempt to start it I am told it is a dependancy and requires something else. Here's the problem: Because of my ignorance, every menu item in most services are greyed out. I can not even access Properties or Help--systemwide! Evendently I shut down items that effect basic computer functions (audio, network adapters, web connections, etc.). I attempted to change via Safe Mode, Command Prompt, and even Registry entries to no avail. Here's the question: how can I effect Service config without a complete OS re-install? :graysigh:

PS understand that I'm aware that I need the basic default settings. I have them. I just need to be able to implement them!

did you creat multi profiles? (if not in future allways do this)
did you set the condition as global or local?

But depending on what services he cut he won’t have this option

And besides he has probably booted his pc many times since then in attempt to fix it so the last good configuration may be to far back

It will still be there as all services are controled under the default (profile 1)

Maybe it might be to far back yes, but the option will still be available.

ya i know....
thats why i asked if het set them as global or local
if he set as local then it might have this option still (depending on how he set up the profiles)BUT
if he set them as global then he won't (depending on what services he edited)

the first time i went through and edited my services i made the mistake of making the change GLOBAL (big mistake)

Sorry i misread, cant really comment on global setting as i dont know what Its difference is so ive never used it, i can only assume it means outside of a LAN somehow???
