Problem with Sims 2

I got me a copy of sims 2, and everything went smoothly with the install, and when i start the game the beginning parts go great, but when i go into one of the neighbourhoods, the game goes all funny, and the screen goes mad. The picture is messed up. All the menus flicker and stay there when i try to close them. Its wierd, anyone have any ideas?? :frown2:

it appears that you might have to update your gfx card drivers, or maybe go to a previous version. I had cat 4.9 and the game wouldn't get passed the first logo. Loaded 4.8 and now it is working fine. Also if you have your gfx card overclocked then maybe turn the clock speed down a litlle as this can cause artifacts in certain games.

That sounds promising, could you tell me how to slow it down a bit? I've never heard of that before.
