It means you don't have a compatible Graphics card on your computer. I suggest you get a new one that is compatible with most of the games out there and for the future ahead. If you have a decent graphics card and should be compatible as said in the "requirements", download the latest Direct X.

Yes, but read the requirements on the Sims 2 box.
Also be sure to download and install the latest direct x.

it wasnt that problem
i fixed it my self

if you have a refresh rate fix for your graphics card disable it
like if you have nvrt or that other one for ati disable it if you get the same error i posted above here the one about not finding a compatible directx card
i disabled it and it worked pretty fast (reforce or nvidia refresh rate fix)

Uninstall and reinstall your video card it worked for me
try and update your direct x to 9.0c but dont try to remove 9c cuz you cant.

what i forgot to mention- it may not have been teh refresh rate fix
i uninstalled and reinstalled my video card AND my refresh rate fix at the same time
and it worked

Hi ...

Recently I got Sims 2, and during installation, no problem happened ...
But when I start the game, it is something happening to me, that I think it might be some kind of video problem. I explain:

The first 5 minutes after I enter the game, work perfectly, but after those 5 minutes, something happens that messes with the game.
The screen goes all mad, with colors all around, and after 5 seconds of that color salad, the screen goes black and turns off the monitor ...

Does anyone know what might be happening ??

I would like to say, that, for those 5 minutes I can play, the game seems to be a GREAT GAME ...

Thankx,

Hello there, I've established that I definitely need a new Graphics card to play the Sims 2, just a couple of questions really... Firstly, do you think it's worth just buying a new card just for the Sims? The only PC games I really play are simulation/strategy ones like the ones Maxis make, so unless they're planning to make their new games require Direct X 9.0c as well, I don't know if it's worth it? Would it enhance anything else apart from gaming?

Second, how much should a new card cost? I'm going to look around for one right now but I don't want to overpay for it just because I don't know how much I ought to be charged (oh dear).

Sorry to lumber this on everyone, I'm looking at other forums etc. as well in the meantime.. thank you

K
