Alleged game details briefly leaked to Microsoft's Xbox.com gaming forums
13:01 A sly Halo 2 beta tester has reportedly posted numerous Halo 2 gameplay details on Xbox's official gaming forums - inevitably removed by enraged moderators, but not before we clapped eyes on it - disclosing simultaneous four-player Live play from the same Xbox as one of its key features.
To put that in clearer terms, what is being alleged here is that four players will be able to connect to Xbox Live through the same machine at the same time, a nifty little option in anyone's book.
Needless to say, Microsoft has refused to deny or confirm these reports, remaining tight-lipped over the whole affair.
Still, for those keen to believe the rumour mill, also mentioned in this spectacular 'leak' were details of the maps, weapons and game modes, plus various gameplay alterations.
According to the tester, the build only had three maps - Zanzibar (which was the same as it was shown at E3 and reportedly puts maps like "Blood Gulch to shame"), Mid Ship (that's a Covenant battle ship, to you and me), and Ivory Tower (described by its author as "an enclosed greenhouse or park").
New weapons supposedly include the Covenant Beam Rifle - apparently like the human sniper rifle and which doesn't require re-loading - and the Brute Shot, which is described as hybrid of a rifle and a grenade launcher. There is also a Covenant Carbine hidden in the Mid Ship and Ivory Tower levels, according to the post, which is reportedly like a superior Battle Rifle, with a machine gun-like rate of fire.
As for new modes, mentioned are a swords-only bloodfest called simply Swords and an assault-based game involving bombs - the offence team must escort a bomb carrier to the enemy's base, where he/she will proceed to plant the device.
Also rumoured by the forum post were a bevy of gameplay differences. Highlights mentioned included higher jumping, being able to see your feet, all weapons boasting more than one melee attack, all non-scoped weapons featuring binoculars, a new, third-person view from the Warthog passenger seat and better handling for the Warthog.
Additionally, we're told there's a completely revamped HUD (vertical health bar, reserve weapon status, visible score keeper) and the elimination of health bars (once all shields have been destroyed, you can only take three or more shots), plus hijacking vehicles is described as "awesome".
Hmm, hmm, fact or fiction then? Well, we can only say that time will tell - but there definitely appears to be a hint of credibility to these latest revelations.
