Dude my xbox showed me a screen that said that it needed to be serviced, so I let it sit there for a week and then I started playing it again. Its been about three months since then. But today I was watching final destination 2 on my xbox and it freaked out. The cd was really scratched up so I thought that was it, but then that screen came back. Should I pay to have it fixed or just save up my money and buy a new one. Has anybody else had this problem and had it fixed, and how much does it cost? Thanks ;)

I got the DOS failure screen, the main jewel started flashing red instead of green.
This happened less than 2 months after I first got my XBX(11.15.01), so it happened
sometime in january of 2002.
Having studied the XBX online I remembered that the OS is flashed onto the Hdd at
each start up. The screen told me I had to contact MS support, I think it even gave
a phone number or web address.
Either way since the OS is hardwired, I just unplugged it and let it reset.
10 minutes later I plugged it back in and she acted like nothing happened.
I took it to my dealer who ran the system refresh disk on it just to be safe.
(this will erase your entire Hdd's saves and tunes).

Not a problem ever since, lucky perhaps.
But I never believe eveything I read,
even if it comes in the form of a dreadful onscreen prompt with a bloody red flashing light.
