Hey I've just bought some upgrades for one of my old computer and at the moment im trying to network the current one that im using and the new one, The old computer networked without a hassle. However i cant seem to network the new one even though there is nothing wrong that i can find, ive done all the basic stuff like making sure cables plugged in, workgroup names, etc. Is there any other common thing which might cause them to not work. Below are the basic specs of the 2 comps

Current :
AMD athlon 2200+
Radeon 9700
1GB pc2700 ram
Epox EP-8RDA+

New :
P4 2.8GHz
Radean 9600xt 256mb
512Mb pc 3200 ram
Asus P4P800S SE

Any Help would be greatly appreciated because im keen to format the older one when i can transfer the hard drive across.
Thanks

Also they are networked through a hub which also goes to a cable modem, the new computer cant connect to the internet through that either.

There is an edit button you know :)

On XP Pro did you make sure to say in the networking wizard that the computer connects to the internet through a hub/switch?

is the built in firewall turned on? That will prevent such access.

If you want to link just two computers directly you can try a crossover-link-cable. If what you're using now doesnt work why dont you try this?
Otherwise... did you assign seperate IPs for both of them? You need to turn off firewall too like gehenna said... it prevents ALL internet share.
I used these sites to link... maybe they will help you: got to trouble shooting guides...
