Fallout Tactics via GameSpy

hey, having problems trying to play Fallout Tactics BOS via Gamespy. everytime me and a mate try to host and join the joiner just gets a black screen with an egg timer while the host get the standard server options screen. we've tried it both ways round, and tried opening all needed ports of router / firewalls.
Any Ideas?
