Hi I'm trying to re burn some of my old backups images i made from Alcohol 120.
But everytime i burn them they show up black and white and flicker on the screen. Its a bran new ps2 so im assuming the lazer is still good. And I dont think its my media becuase I used alcohol to backup a game i just bought and it worked fine its just these older images. Anyone know what might cause this?

could be a regional problem? Do the original games work correctly?

I agree regional problem.Either u are trying to play a pal game on a ntsc tv that does not support 50hz pal or you are trying to play ntsc on a pal tv that don't support ntsc 60hz.
I'm guessing the first as playing ntsc on pal does not normally cos flickering ,only black and white.
Anyway to fix ,if you are playing a ntsc game on a pal tv ,use a proper rgb scart. If you are playing a pal game on a ntsc tv ,patch to ntsc or get a decent tv that supports pal.

Yup, it's the region problem it can also be sorted if you have a DMS3 modchip.

Well the oringals worked but ive never tried them on this tv. I tried a PAL to Ntsc convter i found on the net. It says it patches it but it did the same thing after i burned the image. How does the modchip fix the problem? does it do it automaticly or do you change a setting each time

Yes with the DMS3 v2 or higher you can.
i toke some pictures about the dms3 setting screen and a pal dvd game that i own and its not patched btw so u can check the difference between them, with my pc's webcam on my tv (sorry my cam is not the best so the pictures aren't very clear but ill explain each one so u can figure it out.
1st pic named Default DMS3 Settings: in this pic, the PS2 Video Fix is put to None (3rd option from the top, under MM16 Enabled) wich leave the chip's video signal to the default frequency, NTSC (or PAL if u have a PAL PS2/TV). After i saved these settings onto the memory card (with Start) and reset the ps2, I boot my PAL DVD game (Broken Sword-Sleeping Dragon) and comes to these picture:
2nd picture named black & white screen with flickering shows that the screen is in b&w and flickering bcus my TV only support NTSC. Reset my ps2, enter in the dms3 settings screen again (without the dvd in the drive) and change the PS2 Video Fix to Video Mode (picture Changed settings in the dms3's config. screen). Save the setting and boot again the game and comes to these picture (full color screen without flickering). Now my screen is in full color, no flickering except the screen isnt centered its more like at the bottom right part of the screen but with the screen adjust option you can adjust that or maybe with a future chip update).
The pics aren't in the right order so here's the right list.
Black/white flickering screen Normal full color screen Default DMS3 settings Changed settings

Still not a perfect solution though.Still says it's not centered and not all games have a center option. Best solution is just multisignal tv ,not that expensive even my £50 tv will take both ntsc and pal.

Yes, it's been suggested in the next flash update v2.3 to have it centered. And it takes away the patching, so it's good for those with an old tv. But like you said a new tv has the ability to view both NTSC and PAL.

Just curious ,but do you know how they with have it centered as I read the reason it does that it cos pal is higher resolution than standard ntsc and when you patch to ntsc it only changes the colour format not the res ,so parts of the screen are gonna get cut off. I suppose they could change the res ,but wouldent that make it look wierd.

I don't know how they do it. I didn't even think it would be possible that a modchip would be able to change from NTSC to PAL. And it's still a suggestion, so it's possible they aren't going to be able to center it. you can find more info about it on their site at www.dms3.com on the forum.
