For information on the DMS3 chip, and soldering details / diagrams, look on the link below. You will not need anything else to Play any games or movies, originals or backups .. I have one fitted in my PS2 ;)

I too have a question. My PS2 is possessed, literally. When I want it to work, it spits at me, when I don't care, it feels the need to make me care by doing what I dislike most, shutting down or freezing in the middle of a game, or even failing to read the DVD that I am watching. I know the cause is NOT the HD because I have had numerous HDD updates along with nuking the HDD to reinstall FFXI. Now on to what the problem is.

Whenever I play a blue-back disc (Playstation 2 CD's) or a black-back disc (Playstation CD's) it will not run. However, I saw on the Sony site, that addressed this error, that you could place a piece of tape in the centre of the disc and it will work. I did this and it doesn't work at all. Though when I do not do this, it still doesn't work. Sony aggreed to fix my Playstation for free but I have yet to send it in. It is not having problem with silver-back discs (DVD CD's). Do you have any information prior to this?

If you've opened up your PS2 you've lost your warranty. If you want to do it yourself you got to clean the laser most times the laser is going bad when you play to many movie DVDs on it. After a while you can't play any game anymore. So if you didn't open your PS2 yet you're in luck. If you did well either pay their service or do it yourself.
