hi there
i have this pc at work and for some strange reason it is running a little to hot for my liking and i was just wondering if 60c is okay?? pc at home is a 2400+ which runs at 40c but the office pc (2000+) is running at sixty. i got a new heat sink and fan which can handle 3000+ i also have a fan on the back of the case which is blowing in but this still aint helping matters.
does anyone have any suggestions??

I asume you have intake fan, but if you don't have one get one.
Or there's no problem because they show different tempretures with different software on different computer.

I have AMD Athlon XP 2200+
what is the temperature range for normal usage??
I have 3 different hardware monitor programs:
- ASUS PROBE (from my asus mobo) -> it says 48 deg C
- hardware monitor -> it says 61 deg C
- Si Soft Sandra -> it says 60 deg C
which program is reliable?

Agreed with Merubin, different progs show different temperatures, you can also check temperature from bios.
My previous pc runs 2-3 years about 58-62c, everything was ok.
I think problems may start near 70c.

One thing is sure AMD processors can handle more heat than Intel processors.
AMD suffers by 80c and Intel by 60c.
Have ya checked if the processor in the computer on ya work is overclocked??
Couse if so turn it back to manufacture defaults, ya will see tempreture will drop.
If it's not overclocked check if airflow is good inside case, if not so ty all wires together and use rounded IDE cables.
else go take a look for liquitcoolers.

 cheers m8

BTW the fancooler ya put on the back on the case should not blow air inside but suck it outside the case. The only sides the fans may blow into the case are from the outside and from the left side (where ya can get into case). all other must suck air out.

triforce190 do u mean blow out :D
okay that is all good info. CPU is not overclocked but thinking about it i could get a new one if i did do that :p.
i have the rounded IDE cables. i have checked the temp in bios and in windows (using MSI software) they are pretty much the same. well if this pc can hack it at 60c i think i will leave it. if it does blow up gives me a good reason to get a new one and then swap it with the one at home :D
just need to swap the back fan so that it blows out or suck air out.
Thanks peeps

Its just a suggestion, there is a possibility that the cpu sensor in the middle of the cpu socket maybe a little to close to the base of the cpu. I had a case were this happened with 1700+ xp AMD. I built the system, then all the bells and whistles started after the it had been running for about 5 minutes.
I tested the cpu in another machine with a identicle board and it was ok. So I check the board to find that the sensor was sitting to high so I lowered it and tried again with no probs.

Just a suggestion...

Yup did mean blow out :grinangel
some words i cant translate from dutch to english :blacno
Don't be afraid it will blow up, couse it will only melt if its getting to hot :disturbed :)

80c is a critical temprature for AMD but that doesn't mean it will damage maybe that AMD can take a little more, so don't worry about it

agree with triforce... i personally go by simple rule, if its hot enough to require an extra fan on back then it should have an extra intake fan (mounted on the side) - thats just my theory altho dont have extra fans atm, i used this principle on my last pc with no probs.

also your english translation was fine m8, most of us knew exactly what you were saying
